MESSAGE FROM THE LORD MAYOR OF MELBOURNE

The City of Melbourne is a proud sponsor of the 2012 Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival – an event that brings the best of Chinese film to Australia.

Cinema has a long tradition in China dating back to Shanghai in the 1890s, where it has been used as both entertainment and a medium to promote eastern culture. The 2012 Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival continues this strong tradition by showcasing the diverse stories of Chinese life to an Australian audience.

Chinese culture is important to Melbourne – it is equally celebrated and respected and events such as this one only strengthen this relationship.

I am heartened by the Golden Koala Awards motto of ‘justness, fairness and openness’ and wish all entrants good luck for the award – the first of its kind in Australia.

As the lights go down and the film screens brighten, I hope you enjoy the very best offerings of Chinese cinema.
